Functional Medicine at Cleveland Primecare

If you feel tired, inflamed, stuck, or frustrated by symptoms that keep coming back, Functional Medicine at Cleveland Primecare offers a more complete way to understand your health.

Our approach looks beyond isolated symptoms and focuses on the patterns that may be affecting your energy, metabolism, digestion, hormones, inflammation, stress resilience, and long-term wellness.

What Is Functional Medicine?

A personalized, root-cause approach to helping your body function better.

Functional Medicine is a patient-centered, whole-person approach to chronic health concerns that asks “Why are you unwell?” so care can be personalized around the root causes of a person’s health patterns — not just the symptoms showing up on the surface. It also emphasizes a holistic, food-first approach that considers lifestyle, genetics, and environment as contributors to chronic disease.

At Cleveland Primecare, we build on that same root-cause model while also honoring core naturopathic principles: the body is interconnected, lifestyle matters, food is foundational, prevention is powerful, and the goal is to support the body’s natural capacity to restore better function.

This means we look at the full picture:

Your symptoms. Your health history. Your labs. Your nutrition. Your sleep. Your stress. Your digestion. Your metabolism. Your hormones. Your environment. Your daily habits.

Because fatigue, weight resistance, digestive issues, inflammation, blood sugar changes, thyroid symptoms, and hormone shifts rarely happen in isolation.

Meet Brandon Drabek, ND

Brandon Drabek, ND is a naturopathic doctor at Cleveland PrimeCare who focuses on whole-person, root-cause wellness. Naturopathy is a system of care that aims to support health and wellness by addressing underlying causes of imbalance, using tools such as nutrition, lifestyle change, stress support, herbs, supplements, and exercise guidance.

Through a functional medicine approach, Dr. Drabek helps patients better understand what may be contributing to fatigue, weight resistance, thyroid concerns, hormone changes, digestive issues, inflammation, blood sugar problems, and feeling “off” despite normal labs. His goal is to help patients feel heard, make sense of their symptoms, and build a practical plan for better energy, function, and long-term health.

Real Results. Real Transformations

“I came in feeling completely drained. I was getting through my days, but barely. I kept being told my labs were ‘fine,’ but I knew something was off because I didn’t feel like myself anymore. What stood out to me was that Cleveland PrimeCare actually looked at the full picture — my stress, sleep, nutrition, digestion, energy, and history. For the first time, I felt like someone was connecting the dots instead of brushing me off. I finally had a plan that made sense, and I started feeling hopeful again.”

Functional Medicine Patient

“I was doing everything I thought I was supposed to do — eating better, trying to exercise, cutting back on sugar — but my body felt stuck. It was frustrating and honestly embarrassing because I felt like I was failing. Cleveland Primecare's approach helped me understand that it wasn’t just about willpower. There were deeper patterns affecting my metabolism, energy, cravings, and inflammation. Having someone explain what was happening and give me a step-by-step plan made me feel supported instead of judged.”

Functional Medicine Patient

“Before starting care, food felt confusing. I never knew what was going to make me bloated, tired, or uncomfortable. I had tried eliminating things on my own, but it felt random and overwhelming. This process helped me understand my digestion in a way that finally made sense. I felt heard, I felt guided, and I stopped feeling like I had to figure it all out by myself. The biggest change was confidence — confidence in what to eat, what to avoid, and how to listen to my body.”

Functional Medicine Patient

“I came to Cleveland PrimeCare because I was tired of feeling stuck in my own body. Fatigue, inflammation, weight changes, poor sleep, stress — it all felt connected, but no one had ever looked at it that way before. This was the first time I felt like my story mattered. Instead of just naming symptoms, we talked about patterns, root causes, and what my body needed to function better. I left with clarity, direction, and the feeling that I wasn’t crazy — I just needed the right kind of support.”

Common Questions

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional Medicine is a personalized, whole-person approach that looks at how different systems in the body are connected. Instead of focusing only on symptoms, we look for patterns that may be contributing to fatigue, weight resistance, digestive issues, inflammation, hormone changes, thyroid symptoms, blood sugar concerns, and poor recovery.

At Cleveland PrimeCare, this approach blends functional medicine with naturopathic principles: food as foundation, lifestyle as medicine, prevention, and support for the body’s natural ability to restore better function.

How is Functional Medicine different from a regular medical visit?

A traditional medical visit often focuses on diagnosing a condition, managing symptoms, or adjusting medication. Functional Medicine takes a deeper look at why those symptoms may be happening in the first place.

We spend more time reviewing your history, lifestyle, nutrition, sleep, stress, digestion, lab patterns, and goals so we can build a clearer plan. It does not replace primary care, urgent care, or specialist care, but it can add a deeper root-cause wellness perspective.

Who is Functional Medicine for?

Functional Medicine may be a good fit if you feel like something is off, but you have not gotten clear answers. Many patients come to us for support with low energy, brain fog, stubborn weight, cravings, digestive discomfort, inflammation, thyroid symptoms, hormone changes, blood sugar issues, poor sleep, or stress-related burnout.

It is especially helpful for patients who want more than a quick visit and are ready to understand the bigger picture behind how they feel.

What happens during the Root-Cause Initial Consultation?

Your Root-Cause Initial Consultation is a deeper review of your symptoms, health history, lifestyle, nutrition, stress, sleep, digestion, medications, supplements, and available labs.

From there, we begin identifying priority patterns and create a realistic starting plan. This may include nutrition guidance, lifestyle strategies, lab recommendations, targeted supplement support, and follow-up planning.

Will you review my labs?

Yes. If you already have recent labs, we can review them as part of your overall picture. We look at labs in context with your symptoms, history, lifestyle, and goals.

Additional labs may be recommended when appropriate. Labs are not ordered randomly; they should help clarify what is driving your health patterns and guide a more personalized plan.

Will I be given supplements?

Supplements may be recommended when appropriate, but they are not the entire plan. A good Functional Medicine plan should not be just a long list of products.

We focus first on the foundations: nutrition, hydration, sleep, stress resilience, movement, digestion, metabolic health, and consistency. Targeted supplements may be used to support specific needs, but the plan should make sense for your body and your goals.

How long does it take to feel better?

Every patient is different. Some people notice early changes in energy, digestion, cravings, sleep, or mental clarity within a few weeks. Others need several months, especially if symptoms have been present for years.

The goal is steady progress, not a quick fix. Functional Medicine works best when we identify priorities, make targeted changes, track response, and adjust the plan over time.

Is Functional Medicine covered by insurance?

Cleveland PrimeCare Functional Medicine is a cash-based service and does not accept insurance for Functional Medicine consultations, root-cause wellness visits, or related care planning.

We understand that many patients already pay for health insurance, and it can feel frustrating to invest out-of-pocket for additional care. Your insurance is still important for many things: emergency care, hospital care, prescriptions, screenings, imaging, specialist visits, and covered preventive services.

Functional Medicine is different because it often requires more time, deeper review, and a more personalized plan than insurance-based visits typically allow. Our model gives us the ability to spend more time understanding your story, reviewing patterns, discussing nutrition and lifestyle, and building a practical plan focused on how you feel and function.

If you have felt rushed, dismissed, or told that everything is “normal” even though you still feel unwell, this model is designed to give you a different experience.

We also offer financing options and accept HSA/FSA payments when eligible. Eligibility can vary, so we recommend confirming with your HSA/FSA administrator.
